"Why Should I Vote?" Brochures

The League of Women Voters of Florida announces the release of a new publication "Why Should I Vote?". The brochure is free. All organizations concerned with getting out the vote on September 5 and November 7, 2006 will benefit from this important and timely brochure.  The publication provides concise, easy to read voting information on a variety of topics including criteria for eligibility to vote, how to register, where and when to request provisional or absentee ballots, contact numbers for further information, and how to find out if your vote was counted.

Why should Floridians vote?
With all the controversy over gerrymandering, registering of voters, and campaign financing, is it any wonder that citizens who are eligible to vote stay away from the polls in ever-increasing numbers. The simple reason that all of us should vote is that everyone has a stake in election outcomes whether they realize it or not. Poor voter turnout leads elected officials to think that we really are not interested-- we are not concerned with how they govern. Citizens who don't register and don't vote have only themselves to blame for an unfavorable outcome.

With education and encouragement, we can energize communities to exercise their civic responsibility to register and vote.
