About Rosemary Tosi:
We mourn the sudden death on December 23d of our faithful Leaguer, Rosemary Tosi,
and celebrate a life of passionate devotion to making this world a better place.
Rosemary was a tireless advocate for civil rights and responsibilities, for public
education, and for honest government.
She arrived in Gainesville 27 years ago, when her husband, Henry, joined the UF
Business School faculty. She immediately joined the LWV and over the years has
been Chair of the Education, Finance, and Nominating Committees, on the Board
numerous times, and our ever-diligent vendor of LWV calendars.
In addition to her League commitment, Rosemary devoted countless hours volunteering
for her 3 daughters' schools and on the campaigns of many School Board candidates
and fellow Leaguers such as Peg Nattress, Barbara Gallant, and Barbara Sharpe,
whose first priorities were students throughout the county.
Rosemary was also an avid supporter of Democrats, especially because of their
dedication to civil rights and the environment. She was a delegate to several
State Conventions, and volunteered at numerous fundraisers, at Party headquarters,
and for the local Democratic Executive Committee. She also donated her time to
non-partisan events such as LWV Forums and early voting at the Office of the
Supervisor of Elections. She was a Clerk at Precinct 36 from the early 1990's
through this last election.
Rosemary served others her entire life. We in the League are in special debt to
her, and we are deeply grateful to her family for designating the League of Women
Voters of Alachua County-Gainesville as the beneficiary of contributions in
Rosemary's memory. For more than a quarter century, she epitomized everything
a Leaguer strives to be, and she will be sorely missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the League of
Voters of Alachua County/ Gainesville.
